Kinashi – Kagawa
A town where nearly every household has bonsai. Over 60 nurseries produce 80% of Japan’s pine bonsai. Walking through this town feels like entering another world. Extremely few tourists.
Shunkaen Bonsai Museum – Tokyo
Run by master Kunio Kobayashi, one of the world’s greatest bonsai artists. His collection includes trees valued at over 100 million yen. Workshops available by reservation. Entry 800 yen.
Hands-On Bonsai Experience
Several nurseries offer beginner workshops where you select a tree, learn pruning and wiring techniques, and create your own mini bonsai to take home. Sessions run 2-3 hours for 3,000-8,000 yen depending on the tree size.
